It has everything, I said: A spa for her, hot spring-fed swimming pools for the boy, an amazing museum for all of us and a golf course for me. And lots of sunshine. Selling my son on the idea of staying in a giant canvas teepee, complete with its own fire pit inside , was easy.
The teepee, while rustic, did come equipped with wifi. After a quick introduction to a game my father taught me, my son was hooked, asking how hard would it be to pound a couple of one inch metal stakes into the ground of our backyard for a horseshoe pit of our own. We put down our sleeping bags and started to make the fire that would keep us warm for the night and heat our dinner. Only once did my son even reach for his iPhone.
For just a few bucks the family can soak up the sun outside, tube down a man-made lazy river or barrel down a foot water slide. This mile loop begins and ends in Madras so the family dropped me off before they headed over to the aquatics center.
With virtually no traffic, the ride allowed me to look up and take in the breathtaking scenery as I pedaled through the high desert and basalt palisades. And at just over two-hours, it was the perfect amount of time for my own little spinning vacation from vacation.
But after the ride I was eager to meet back up with the family and return back to the lodge to hang out in the room for a little while before dinner, some billiards and arcade games at the Warm Spring Grill. It was a neat to see the kids really get into the experience and see in detail the history of a culture my family knows so little about.
We could have stayed much longer at the museum and taken a walk on one of the interpretive paths outside, but we heading about 40 minutes south for another walk at Smith Rock State Park , one of the true geological gems in Oregon.
But the views are something your family will be talking about forever. A full day already, we finished it off with dinner at the Terrebonne Depot , a renovated year-old train station in the tiny town that leads to the state park. I started Day 4 early with a sunrise tee time at the golf course across the street from the lodge. My wife was ready for a visit to the Spa Wanapine and her native hot stone therapy massage, whatever that is. While she pampered herself, Tanner and I unleashed our inner cowboy with a short but scenic horseback ride near the resort before hitting up the mini-golf course.
We all finished the day together back at the pool relaxing in the warm water putting off packing for as long as we could. Tanner would love to stay in a teepee. We planned to be back to the real world in time for dinner…which was the toughest sell of all. Other Articles — Facebook — Twitter.

To level set, we were there on the very last weekend the casino and campground were open. We had Had great fun The RV park is great. We enjoyed the pool but it was a very busy weekend and lots of people. We went early and then went to our RV and enjoyed the quiet time in the shade as it was very hot. There is no casino at the resort area.
They moved the casino from the resort to a new building down in Warm Springs on Highway 97 a few years ago. I think this was not a good idea as the people that stay in the hotels and RV park at the resort don't have any gaming other than driving the 11 miles into Warm Springs which now many people don't come due to this.
Since we are not big gamblers this doesn't matter to us. The resort does provide shuttles to the casino but only on Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm to 2am. Otherwise it is a great place to enjoy the high desert dry climate and the pool.
I would recommend everyone try it at least once. We go back every year. This resort is located on an Indian res. Located about ten miles from a highway, near Warm Springs, Oregon.
Traveled here for the casino, now located ten miles away in Warm Springs. The Resort is very modern and quiet. Located on a hill above a river. This is kind of a semi-desert area. There is a small rv area a quarter mile away, on the river.
A restaurant, large pool and spa, located at resort. Things to do: horseback riding, fishing, and hiking. Resort number is We went to Kah-Nee-Tah Resort as a family for my husband's birthday. The water park was really cool, although very over-crowded! It was still a lot of fun though!
We were surprised that the water was so warm too! It was hot outside, and then stepping into luke-warm, bath-like water was surprising, we would have liked cooler water to cool down in. The slides were fun, there are 3 separate pools varying in depth, which was nice. We were disappointed because we wanted to take a kanoe trip, but our son is 4 and kids have to be 8.
So we opted for riding horses instead, only to find out that they had decided to close that day. So we went up to the "casino" and "arcade" to play, and found a dinky little area where there were maybe 8 games for adults and 8 for kids So, we went and played mini golf and spent the rest of the day at the pool. On the way out, we stopped by the fish hatchery - which was closed as well. We were really looking forward to doing a lot of different activities and were VERY disappointed to find many things with restrictions and closures that were not provided on the website.
Very few machines. Not many games, layout isn't very nice, parking lot was cramped and it's smoking throughout the building. We drove out of our way to visit the casino and it was a huge let down. I also got carded 3 times within an hour, kind of disruptive! I consider this attraction a one time stand to visit It has a campground with its own tepees for rent if you do not mind to be smelling like a smoke fish when you wake up in the morning and a swimming pool with a very hot spring!!!
Not much to do do or to see around this place except for the small flowing Deschutes river alongside but beware of rattle snakes There is a casino uphill about a short free ride from the resort but it seems that we never win every time we play there I will never go back in this place again unless for "unavoidable circumstances" The fees entrance, towels, etc..
