Why Was This Such A Mystery?
I'm sorry for the days I yelled one too many times.

And for the days that started off on the wrong foot because I was sick and exhausted.

I'm truly sorry that there haven't been more fairy tales, and make believe games and visits to the park in recent months.

I can only hope I'll be able to make it all up to you from this point forward…and actively work on being the Mom I used to be before I got "sick".
I remember a conversation I had with my oldest son a month or more ago. I asked his forgiveness for a bad Mommy day. He said he forgave me. In fact, he said…
"I'll always forgive you."
It melted me and broke me at the same time.
I can only hope I can forgive myself.

I got my blood work back. I'm deficient in b12 and magnesium. I suspected the magnesium was playing a small role, but didn't suspect b12. I looked into it and realize how very serious this deficiency can be, and that I am exhibiting many of the classic/serious signs.
I'm on a high dose supplement right now, but if I don't see an improvement within a few days, I'll be asking for the b12 shots. I'm left to wonder why it took so long (since 2008) to get this diagnosis, when it doesn't appear to be that difficult to diagnose.
I move forward, hopeful that I can reverse many of the symptoms I've been dealing with…anxious and hopeful.

Hope you're feeling better soon.
Wow Nell, that seems like a simple enough explanation! I wonder too why it took so long! What were the specific symptoms that led them to think it was deficiency rather than something more serious?
Thank goodness this sounds like something easy to remedy!

@Jen Knox:
I don't know, Jen. I'm at a total loss as to why my previous doctors didn't figure this out.
I know I was presenting with some really varied symptoms, but the B12 book I read listed ALL of my symptoms… so it isn't unheard of to have a huge variety like this.
I'll probably write a detailed post about this as soon as I start feeling better… just to make sure this is everything going on. But thus far, with ALL the blood work, MRI and urine testing done… it sure looks that way.
I do know it's quite serious if left untreated. I am so thankful to this doctor for figuring things out.

Glad that you find out what was wrong and that your health will Lord willing get better soon!

@Renee:
I should be getting "enough" from foods — I'm not able to hold onto it I guess. I'd like to get to the bottom as to why I can't get enough from foods, like most people. Just to make certain there isn't something else causing this that I need to know about.

So glad you think you've found a solution – how terribly frustrating to feel so awful and not know how to fix it. Will be waiting to see if treatment if effective in time for you to have a fabulous spring!

Yay! I'm doing a little dance for joy!! I'm so happy that you've figured it out and that it's quite fixable.
I know one other lady who has this same issue. From what I've gathered it's not that common, so maybe that's where the delay in diagnosis comes from.
And, don't go worrying about your mothering skills. You just get yourself better, and you'll be back to the mama you want to be in no time.

So happy you found a solution. I spent nearly 4years trying to diagnose my health problems and like you I often questioned my parenting (and how I was doing as a wife) during that time. Our families love us and the understand the same as we would for them. Hope the vitamins work quickly. I know how hard it can be when you don't feel like yourself.
I feel relieved for you that you finally have answers.
I sure hope your treatments work quickly and work well!

How wonderful to have an answer and how frustrating to know that something so non-mysterious was such a mystery for so long.

I have a friend who has had weird symptoms for YEARS and they couldn't figure it out. Then just a couple of months ago she went to a new doctor and they discovered that she has lyme disease – so weird!
Good for you for keeping at it and informing yourself. I'll be praying for you Nell.

Got my first B12 shot today. It didn't hurt and was fast. I go in once a day for 7 days and then once a week for 3 weeks. At that point we'll recheck my levels. I'm praying this truly is all that is going on.
Thanks for the support, everyone.
