My First
In this small house I became a married woman, discovered I was pregnant for the first time and brought home our first baby.
In this house I welcomed two more sons into the world and watch all three grow and learn and change every day.
In this house I've celebrated birthday after birthday, holiday after holiday, anniversary after anniversary.
In this house I've cried and laughed and felt joy and pain.
In this house the noise is deafening, the cabinets overfill, the rooms feel tight, the bathroom is closing in on me, the laundry spills from the corners and I often feel we've outgrown it.
In this house I watch my future sleep peacefully, dreaming of joyful things without a care in the world.
In this house I feel safe, secure and loved. It may just be a house. It may be small. But this small house has somehow turned into a cozy home that I may never want to leave.

Very nice post! It's true not matter how large or small your house is it's still YOUR house filled with all the special memories and moments of your life!
So true! We are actually wanting to get a bigger house but I just keep thinking about all the memories we have in the house we live in now.
It is our first house and I still remember the day we closed and moved in, it was one of the happiest moments in my life. It is going to be really hard to move.
I love your post! You are so good at what you do.
So refreshing to read real words about truly important subjects. (And I love your blog title, "Casual Friday Every Day").
I prefer small houses to big houses myself. And, you know what, it seems no matter how large your house is, you'll soon fill it up with stuff.
So, small and cozy is still best. I used to say, "I want a house where I can (easily) find my kids," LOL!
PS; Your house doesn't look small at all
You gave me goosebumps, Nell.
There's been so much laughter, so much growth, so many tears in our house too. I definitely think I'll feel sad and nostalgic when we eventually move. But I think I'll be happy too. I'm starting to feel a bit restless, ready for something new…
I am RIGHT THERE with you. My house means SOOO much more to me than just a roof over my head. So glad to hear this from someone else. And I'm really glad to receive your e-mails. They make so much sense to me & I totally relate. Love it!!!
Such a sweet post. AND I think we have the same house! Is yours a split level entry? It looks like it in the photos and if so, then so is mine! Cool beans!
What a great post! We move every few years so we never get too much time to build memories in our houses. Thanks for giving me a sweet window into yours.
I'm kinda jealous of your house! I hope I'm in the first house that will be my last house. LOL
It isn't just a house, it's a home.
Hey Nell – I love visiting your blog. We actually moved down to a smaller house due to my husband's job changes. I use to pine about the larger home we had and was set on moving the moment we could. That was about 8 years ago. The longer we're here the more I realize so many important memories happened in this house that I'm not sure I want to leave. I like to say we live in sunny, happy little house. Plus my 16 yr old lanky teen son says that I better not move!
Like Nanette said – it isn't just a house, it's a home.
Your house is beautiful and as long as your family is safe and happy then that is all that matters. We just bought our first home last year. It's small and overflowing with toys and homeschooling supplies. We are hoping to expand it to a 2 level home by next year.
It's definitely not the size that makes a house a home! Yours is full of love, and that is what matters for sure!!
