It's Still So Sweet
We are alone.
Just he and I.
Sitting on the couch together, gazing into each others eyes.
I speak softly to him, and he smiles, milk runs out of his mouth.
Rubbing his little soft head, he reaches out to touch my hair and gives it a tug.
There is often chaos around us, yet it's just he and I in that moment.
I breathe deeply, soaking in his warm little body, and sinking into those deep eyes.
I may not be the source of his warm milk, but I'm still the source of his love, and comfort, and joy.
And I feel good.

(For those of you who are new to my blog, I had to stop nursing baby D months ago for medical reasons. And while it was (and sometimes still is) so painful to let that go, I've foundĀ you can still have a beautiful bond while bottle feeding your little one.)

Oh, but you are still his source! I doubt he can sense any difference because your love and comfort is still there… so sweet.

The pictures are beautiful! Also don't feel bad about changing from Breast to bottle. Know that you are doing what is best for you and your baby. That is all you need to know. You and D are getting the best of what you can give.

I second Steph on that, you ARE and will continue to be his source. Your body may not be providing his physical nourishment in that sense, but your love is giving him the mental, emotional and spiritual nourishment that is just as vital. You have such a beautiful bond together…thank you for sharing these sweet glimpses of it with us.

What a great post, Nell. I wish more mommies would read this, especially the ones struggling with the to-nurse-or-not-nurse question.

It's not the method in which you nurse your baby but the love in which you do it with. You are one great mamma Nell.
